Noli: The Dream Seaside Village on the Ligurian Riviera!

Borghi

The fishermen's beach, the village mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy, the blue sea teeming with fish, an adventurous history of alliances and challenges: Noli could only be one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and in ancient times held the title of Maritime Republic.

A Dive into History

Noli boasts a glorious past as one of the Maritime Republics, alongside Genoa, Pisa, Venice, and Amalfi. Strolling through the historic center, you can admire ancient medieval towers, the Church of San Paragorio (one of the region's most important monuments), and the remains of the Castle of the Marchesi del Carretto with its imposing fortifications that run along Mount Ursino. At the foot of the mountain stands the ancient Bishop's Palace, now a hotel, which preserves frescoes, inscriptions, and period furnishings.

Somewhat secluded and lesser-known, the Church of San Paragorio is worth a visit. Built between 1239 and 1572, it features a Romanesque structure in pinkish-white stone, with 15th-century frescoed walls and a 12th-century Byzantine crucifix.

Postcard-like beaches and sea

The coastline in front of the village is a deep blue, immaculately clean and accessible. Toward Capo Noli, the sea becomes increasingly transparent. Here, some small, secret coves offer Caribbean-like views, while the cliffs overlooking the sea are a paradise for climbers. The gulf's fishermen practice the ancient tradition of trawling, which became a Slow Food Presidium in 2014.

Fishermen's Beach

In the heart of the village lies the Spiaggia dei Pescatori (Fishermen's Beach), one of Noli's most characteristic beaches. It's a public beach, easily accessible, where the local fishing boats add color to the seascape. Here, you can still breathe the authentic atmosphere of ancient seafaring life, with nets spread out in the sun and the scent of the sea enveloping every corner.

Malpasso Beach

Among the most beautiful beaches in the area, Malpasso Beach deserves a special mention. Located along the scenic road connecting Noli to Varigotti, this enchanting bay offers golden sand, spectacular cliffs, and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Perfect for a relaxing day away from the hustle and bustle, the beach is accessible on foot via a short trail and is a true paradise for those who love unspoiled nature.
